Aschenbrenner Wins 55K WEST 3

Don Aschenbrenner won the 55k World Elite Slalom Tour Event (WEST) 3 on Sept. 19.
Don Aschenbrenner of Cornelius, N.C., won the 55k WEST 3, Sept. 17-19, at Lake 38 in Quincy, Fla. The event featured some of the best 34 mph slalom skiers in the world competing in a head-to-head format.
Aschenbrenner defeated Darin Montgomery of Lake Worth, Fla., in the head-to-head final, scoring 5 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off to Montgomery’s 3-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off. Todd Johnson, Casey Contos and Mark Menasci rounded out the top-five placements.
Ben Favret of Windermere, Fla., won the 55k World Elite Slalom Tour Event (WEST) 2 on July 18 at the Swiss Waterski Resort in Clermont, Fla. Mark Menasci of Gilbert, Ariz., won the 55k WEST 1 in September 2020 at Lake 38 in Quincy, Fla.
WEST is a fresh slalom format for 55k cash-prize head-to-head events. Some of the basic details are:
- 32 skiers in the H2H, CASH PRIZE
- 3L (those who don’t make the H2H get a third round of L)
- 32+ person H2H field featuring one of the most elite 34 mph fields in the World this year
- 3 days of skiing for every skier
