Connor Poggetto (Sacramento, Calif.) was selected to the 2023 USA Adaptive Water Ski Team.

USA Adaptive Water Ski & Wake Sports, a sport discipline organization of USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, has announced the selection of the 2023 USA Adaptive Water Ski Team that will compete in the 15th IWWF Disabled Water Ski World Championships, Sept. 11-17, 2023, at Shortline Lake in Elk Grove, Calif. The selections were announced following the conclusion of the 26th Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Fund Adaptive Water Ski National Championships, Sept. 15-17, at Twin Oaks Lakes in Paducah, Ky.

Within each event (slalom, tricks and jumping) at the Disabled Worlds, athletes are grouped into the three categories of seated (paraplegics and quadriplegics), standing (arm and/or leg disabilities with or without prosthesis) and vision impaired (partially or totally blind). At the 2019 Disabled Water Ski World Championships, the USA Adaptive Water Ski Team won the world team gold medal and U.S. team members earned a total of 26 individual medals, including eight gold medals, 10 silver medals and eight bronze medals.

Athletes selected to the 2023 USA Adaptive Water Ski Team were: Cam Delligatti (Chattanooga, Tenn.) – Standing Men; Abigayle Dunn (Susanville, Calif.) – Seated Women; Elijah Hager (Alexis, N.C.) – Seated Men; Katie Mawby (Grand Haven, Mich.) – Vision Impaired Women; Elisha Nelson (Woodland, Calif.) – Standing Women; Connor Poggetto (Carmichael, Calif.) – Seated Men; Mike Royal (Magnolia, Texas) – Vision Impaired Men; Sarah Switzer (Madison, Ala.) – Seated Women; Craig Timm (Center City, Minn.) – Standing Men; and Chuck Wesson (Charlotte, N.C.) – Seated Men.

Jessica Van Dyk (Grand Rapids, Mich.) will serve as manager; Susan Richey (Palatine, Ill.) will be the assistant manager; Brian Detrick (Elk Grove, Calif.) will serve as the coach; and Dr. Keith Barbour (Monroe, Mich.) will serve as the team physician.

Note: USA Adaptive Water Ski & Wake Sports plans to add four more team members. For athletes still interested in earning a spot on the team, USA Adaptive Water Ski & Wake Sports will be requiring athletes to ski in two American Water ski Association class C/L/R tournaments in 2023 by Sunday, July 9. USA Adaptive Water Ski & Wake Sports will take those scores and evaluate which athletes will help the team the most in its quest of defending the world championship title. The additional team members will be announced by Wednesday, July 14; two months prior to the event.
