2023 U.S. Barefoot Water Ski Teams Selected

The American Barefoot Club, a sport discipline organization of USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, has announced the selections to the 2023 U.S. Elite Barefoot Water Ski Team and U.S. Junior Barefoot Water Ski Teams that will compete in the 2023 IWWF World Barefoot Water Ski Championships, Feb. 14-19, 2023, at the Max Kirwan Ski Parks in Mulwala, New South Wales, Australia.
For the eighth consecutive time, the biennial Elite World Barefoot Water Ski Championships will be held simultaneously with the biennial Junior World Barefoot Water Ski Championships. The Elite Barefoot Worlds is taking place for the 22nd time, and the Junior Barefoot Worlds is taking place for the 14th time. Athletes and teams from more than a dozen countries will compete for world team titles and world individual titles in wake slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.
Athletes that have been selected to the U.S. Elite Barefoot Water Ski Team are: Carter Boerman (Paddock Lake, Wis.), Mike Caruso (Delray Beach, Fla.), Orval Cyr (Chisago City, Minn.), Faith Dix (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.), Jerry Kanawyer (Byron, Calif.), Noah Kinnaman (Lake St. Louis, Mo.), Broderick Meskers (Chetek, Wis.) and Brett Swanbom (Land O’ Lakes, Fla.).
Athletes that have been selected to the U.S. Junior Barefoot Water Ski Team are: Carter Boerman (Paddock Lake, Wis.), Amara Bruns (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Orval Cyr (Chisago City, Minn.), Noah Kinnaman (Lake St. Louis, Mo.), Cameron Patton (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) and Brett Swanbom (Land O’ Lakes, Fla.).
Broderick Meskers (Chetek, Wis.) will serve as the coach of the Junior team. Dale Stevens (West Palm Beach, Fla.) will serve as the coach of the Elite team. Deanna Dean (Apollo Beach, Fla.) and Andrew Martin (San Francisco, Calif.) will serve as team managers.
This event will be the first in-person Barefoot World Championships since 2018. At the 2018 Barefoot Worlds in Napanee, Ontario, Canada, the U.S. Junior Barefoot Water Ski Team won the overall team gold medal and the U.S. Elite Barefoot Water Ski Team earned the overall team silver medal. In 2020, due to COVID-19, the Elite Barefoot World Championships was cancelled, but the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation hosted a virtual Junior Barefoot Water Ski World Championships in which the U.S. team won the overall team gold medal and team members won five of the six events.
