Eight U.S. Athletes Win Titles At Junior U.S. Open

Eight U.S. water ski athletes won titles in respective events at the 21st Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 26-27, at the San Marcos River Ranch in Martindale, Texas. The two-round, world-record capability event featured junior men and junior women (ages 17 to 21) and boys and girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Some of the world's top junior water ski athletes competed for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.
U.S. athletes winning titles were: Brooke Baldwin (Winter Garden, Fla.), junior women’s slalom (3-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off), tricks (7,430 points), jumping (131 feet) and overall; Will Blair (Mooresville, N.C.), boys’ overall; Landon Geels (Westminster, Colo.), junior men’s slalom (5 buoys at 38 feet off); Blaze Grubbs (Rio Linda, Calif.), junior men’s overall; Samantha Hill (Morris, Conn.), girls’ jumping (106 feet); Alana Jones (Church Point, La.), girls’ slalom (5 buoys at 35 feet off); Ty Kosek (Buffalo, Minn.), boys’ jumping (142 feet); and Jonathan Leutz (Jacksonville, Ill.), junior men’s jumping (179 feet).
Other athletes winning titles were: Dominga Gonzalez (Chile), girls’ tricks (5,370 points); Matias Gonzalez (Chile), boys’ tricks (9,240 points); Evan Kraus (Canada), boys’ slalom (3 buoys at 38 feet off); Sean Kraus (Canada), junior men’s tricks (7,850 points); and Shea O’Brien (Canada), girls’ overall.
