Shermalot Wins Mercury Marine Engines D2 Show Ski Nationals

The Shermalot Water Ski Show Team (Nekoosa, Wis.) won the team title at the 20th Mercury Marine Engines Division 2 Show Ski National Championships, presented by Visit Central Florida, Aug. 7-8, on Wolf River Pond in Shawano, Wis. Hosted by the Shawano Ski Sharks, the tournament featured nine teams competing for the Division 2 show ski national title. In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.
Shermalot earned high-scoring awards for ballet, swivel, dock and equipment personnel, overall show, showmanship, and sound crew total in tallying a grand total 1,364.57 points. The Shawano Ski Sharks (Shawano, Wis.) placed second with 1,238.9 points. Silver Lake (Fenton, Mich.) rounded out the top-three placements with 1,099.02 points.
The Division 2 Show Ski National Championships also featured athletes competing individually in swivel, doubles and team jumping. Josie Smerchek (Marinette, Wis.) won Open swivel, scoring 16.07 points. Michael Bolda and Megan Bolda (Waterford, Wis.) and Jack Misina (Saint Germain, Wis.) and Kate Draeger (Lac Du Flambeau, Wis.) tied for first place in Open doubles, each pair tallying 10.53 points.
