Nine U.S. Athletes Win Titles At 22nd Junior U.S. Open

U.S. athlete Erick Macias won Junior Boys' tricks, scoring 8,200 points.

Nine U.S. water ski athletes won titles in respective events at the 22nd Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 25-26, at Bell Acqua Lake 3 in Rio Linda, Calif. The two-round, world-record capability event featured junior men and junior women (ages 17 to 21) and boys and girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Some of the world's top junior water ski athletes competed for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall. 

U.S. athletes winning titles were: Chase Sparks (Dallas, Ga.), Junior Boys’ slalom (1 buoy at 38 feet off) and overall (2,563.9 points); Erick Macias (Winter Garden, Fla.), Junior Boys’ tricks (8,200 points); Julianna Macias-Sedano (Winter Garden, Fla.), Junior Girls’ tricks (3,690 points); Gage Kacprowicz (San Antonio, Texas), Junior Boys’ jumping (149 feet); Elizabeth Hall (Newnan, Ga.), Junior Girls’ jumping (119 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); Blaze Grubbs (Rio Linda, Calif.), Junior Men’s slalom (1/2 buoy at 39-1/2 feet off), tricks (8,340 points) and overall (3,000.0 points); Kendra Nathan (Canyon Lake, Calif.), Junior Women’s slalom (2-1/2 buoys at 35 feet off); Alyssa Drake (Oconomowoc, Wis.), Junior Women’s tricks (3,840 points), jumping (130 feet) and overall (2,992.7 points); and Jonathan Leutz (Jacksonville, Ill.), Junior Men’s jumping (200 feet).

Peru’s Cristhiana De Osma won Junior Girls’ slalom (1/2 buoy at 35 feet off).
