WI State Show Championships This Weekend

The 51st Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships will be held Thursday through Sunday at Lake Wazeecha’s Red Sands Beach in Wisconsin Rapids. Hosted by the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers, the tournament, billed as the world’s largest water ski tournament, will feature 24 teams competing in three divisions. The tournament also features athletes competing individually in adagio doubles, swivel, freestyle jumping and team jumping acts.

Entry Deadline For NSSA Nationals Is July 15

The deadline for teams and individuals to enter the 2017 Division 1 and Division 2 Show Ski National Championships is Saturday, July 15. Official entry forms for the 2017 Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships and 2017 Division 2 Show Ski National Championships are available online at www.USAWATERSKI.org. The Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships, presented by Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing, will be held Aug. 11-13 in Loves Park, Ill. The Division 2 Show Ski National Championships will be held Aug. 4-6 in Tomahawk, Wis.

Wonder Lake Wins NSSA Central Regionals

The Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team (Wonder Lake, Ill.) won the Central Regional Show Ski Championships on Sunday at Shorewood Park in Loves Park, Ill. Wonder Lake, the defending national champion, tallied 1,541.88 points in winning the title over the Backwater Gamblers (Rock Island, Ill.), which scored 1,342.63 points.

Sarasota Ski-A-Rees Win Southern Regionals

Photography by Lynn NovakofskiThe Sarasota Ski-A-Rees (Sarasota, Fla.) won the 2017 Southern Regional Show Ski Championships on Sunday at Tower Lake in Oldsmar, Fla. Sarasota earned high-scoring awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show and high individual club act in scoring a grand total 1,831.27 points. The host Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team finished runner-up with 1,699.83 points, followed by the Cypress Gardens Ski Team (Winter Haven, Fla.) with 1,435.83 points and the Lakeland Ski Club (Lakeland, Fla.) with 824.47 points.

Mad-City Ski Team Wins Mercury Open

The Mad-City Ski Team (Madison, Wis.) won the 2017 Mercury Open on Saturday on the Rock River at Traxler Park in Janesville, Wis. Mad-City earned high-scoring awards for towboat driving, showmanship, overall show, barefoot and pyramid in scoring a grand total 1,573.5 points. The host Rock Aqua Jays, which had won the last eight Mercury Open titles, finished runner-up with 1,519.1 points, followed by the defending national champion Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team (Wonder Lake, Ill.) with 1,511.17 points.

Show Ski Nationals’ Entry Forms Available

The official entry forms for the 2017 Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships and 2017 Division 2 Show Ski National Championships are now available online at www.USAWATERSKI.org. NSSA Names Show Directors For 2018 Worlds

The National Show Ski Association has announced that Jeremy Armstrong of Winter Haven, Fla., and Gerry Luiting of Janesville, Wis., will be the co-show directors for the 2018 USA Water Ski Show Team that will compete in the 2018 World Show Ski Championships. The fourth biennial tournament will be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Teams from the United States, Australia, Canada, China and Belgium have competed in the first three world championships with the United States winning all three times in 2012, 2014 and 2016. Exact dates for the 2018 event have yet to be determined.
