Joe Ray, Katie Mawby Earn WSDA Honors

Photograohy by John Lipscomb.U.S. disabled water ski athletes Joe Ray (Wilsonville, Ala.) and Katie Mawby (Grand Haven, Mich.) have been selected the 2014 Male Athlete of the Year and 2014 Female Athlete of the Year, respectively, for the Water Skiers with Disabilities Association. In addition, Mawby has been selected the 2014 Pan Am Confederation Female Disabled Athlete of the Year, by which she now becomes a candidate for IWWF Female Disabled Athlete of the Year. Mexico’s Jorge Font was selected the 2014 Pan Am Confederation Male Disabled Athlete of the Year.

2015 Disabled Water Ski Team Selected

The Water Skiers with Disabilities Association, a sport discipline organization of USA Water Ski, has announced the selection of the 2015 U.S. Disabled Water Ski Team that will compete in the 12th Disabled Water Ski World Championships, Sept. 21-27, 2015, in Elk Grove, Calif. The selections were announced following the conclusion of the 2014 Disabled Water Ski National Championships, Aug. 29-31, in Talking Rock, Ga.

Eight Athletes Win Titles At WSDA Nationals

Eight athletes won national titles at the 23rd Disabled Water Ski National Championships, sponsored by the Shepherd Center and the Barbara Bolding/Jim Grew Foundation, Aug. 29-31, at Whitestone Lake Estates in Talking Rock, Ga. The Disabled Nationals featured the United States’ top disabled water ski athletes competing for national titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.

WSDA 2014-2015 Officers Announced

The Water Skiers with Disabilities Association has announced its slate of officers for 2014-2015. Officer positions include Chad Guzman, chairman of the board; Matt Oberholtz, president; Jim Grew, vice president; and Lisa Ruger, treasurer.

Level 1 Adaptive Certification Program

The Water Skiers with Disabilities Association, a sport discipline organization of USA Water Ski, has created the Adaptive Water Ski Certification Program, which includes a comprehensive manual and testing materials. This manual is intended to introduce adapted water skiing equipment and teaching progressions to persons of all interests and levels of water skiing ability.
