Junior U.S. Open Field Announced

USA Water Ski is pleased to announce the field of competitors (PDF) for the 12th Junior U.S. Open Water ski Championships. The 2012 Junior U.S. Open, a two-round world-record capability tournament, will be held June 2-3 at the Lake of Dreams in Jerseyville, Ill.

Orlando To Host Water Sports Festival

Combining extreme sports, family-friendly entertainment and music in the world capital of water skiing, soaked is a new extreme water sports festival coming to Orlando, Sept. 7-8. Taking over downtown Orlando’s iconic centerpiece, Lake Eola, the festival will feature world champion water skiers competing for $100,000, along with music, motor shows, carnival rides, great food, and more.

Masters Named Operation Gold Event

Adding to the prominence of the 53rd Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament, presented by Nautique, is the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and USA Water Ski designating the water ski competition as an Operation Gold event. Operation Gold is a USOC program that rewards athletes for earning medals at elite level events. Operation Gold allows U.S. water ski athletes to earn money by placing in the top-four in their division/event.

Rules For 2012 35+ Worlds Available

The rules for the 2012 35+ Water Ski World Championships have been posted to the IWWF Web site. In addition to the team and individual qualifying, there is a new unexpected "Wild Card" rule. Five people that are not on the team or qualified as an individual can ski in the tournament. The American Water Ski Association's 35+ Subcommittee will announce the criteria for the "Wild Card" rule soon.
