16 Athletes Win National Hydrofoil Titles

Sixteen athletes won national titles at the 4th annual USHA Hydrofoil Nationals, July 15-18, at Water Valley Lakes in Windsor, Colo. More than 30 of the nation's top hydrofoil athletes competed during the four-day event, which was conducted by the United States Hydrofoil Association and hosted by the Rocky Mountain Hydrofoil Club.

Divisions consisted of Pro, Open, Outlaw, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced Tech and Advanced Air, and athletes competed in free ride (four passes in which the best scoring 10 tricks count), 3-trick (the best scoring three tricks on pass one and best scoring three tricks on pass two; better of the two passes counts) jump out/flip out (most consecutive jumps without a fall during two passes) and big air (three attempts or two falls; biggest trick counts). Tricks were scored on technical difficulty, air and style.

In Pro, Geno Yauchler (Winter Haven, Fla.) won 3-trick (52.27 points), big air (53.5 frames) and overall (280 points). Al Lewin (Austin, Texas) won free ride (140.10 points).

In Open, Dave Petersen (Jacksonville, Fla.) won big air (52.50 frames) and overall (260 points); MJ Pohl (Minneapolis, Minn.) won free ride (68.27 points); and Ray Brantley (Wake Forest, N.C.) won 3-trick (32.25 points).

In Outlaw, Tyler Narans (Evergreen, Colo.) won free ride (50.41 points) and overall (245 points); Trevor Sudweeks (Canyon Lake, Calif.) won 3-trick (24.51 points); and Brandon Sudweeks (Murrieta, Calif.) won big air (54.0 frames).

In Novice, Davis Raines (Thornton, Colo.) won free ride (14.82 points), 3-trick (4.83 points) , jump out (44 jumps) and overall (300 points).

In Intermediate, Hayden Quimby (Port Gibson, Miss.) won free ride (41.1 points), 3-trick (13.6 points) and overall (280 points). Ryan Howk (Independence, Mo.) won flip out (10 flips).

In Advanced Tech, Leah Stilwell (Charlotte, N.C.) won free ride (60.1 points), 3-trick (23.1 points) and overall (280 points). Cayce Chismar (Charlotte, N.C.) won flip out (21 flips).

In Advanced Air, Trampes Grant (Pell City, Ala.) won free ride (60.2 points) and overall (245 points); Shane Drunkenmiller (Lone Tree, Colo.) won 3-trick (23.9 points); and Justin Dietrich (Tucson, Ariz.) won big air (46.0 frames).
