2010 Disabled Nationals Set For Aug. 26-28

The Water Skiers with Disabilities Association has announced that the 21st Disabled Water Ski National Championships and 2nd Pan Am Championships will be held Aug. 26-28 in Danville, Ind. The Hawthorn Lake Ski Club, in cooperation with the Indiana Water Ski Association and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana Sports, will host both events. Site familiarization will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

The results from the Disabled Nationals, a two-round record-capability tournament, will be used to select the 2011 U.S. Disabled Water Ski Team, the defending world champion. Additionally, the Nationals will incorporate the IWWF Pan Am Championships with skiers invited from Canada, Brazil and Mexico.

For the first time, the organizers also hope to integrate able-bodied skiers among the physically challenged contestants in addition to holding a clinic prior to the tournament for intermediate to advanced disabled athletes.

Dan Van Dyk, recently chief judge of the Disabled Water Ski World Championships in France, has agreed to serve as chief judge. Bill and Denise Bowness, who co-captained the U.S. team to victory at the Disabled Worlds, will help organize the skier clinic.

The Water Skiers with Disabilities Association is one of nine sport disciplines of USA Water Ski, the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States.
