2020 Barefoot Worlds Postponed

Due to the Novel COVID-19 Virus, the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation’s World Barefoot Council announced today the postponement of the 2020 Barefoot Water Ski World Championships. The biennial tournament was scheduled for April 11-18 in Liverpool, New South Wales, Australia. The New South Wales LOC will in the coming months monitor the situation closely with a plan to reschedule the event with a revised date for late 2020.

"Over the past weeks, the world has experienced unprecedented changes in the way we travel and live our day to day lives due to COVID-19," said Geoff Blaauw, chairman of the IWWF World Barefoot Council. "With the above in mind, the IWWF World Barefoot Council advises that the 2020 IWWF World Barefoot Championships will be postponed to a date to be confirmed. Moving forward, we understand this is regrettable, yet under the circumstances understandable."

The IWWF also postponed the 2020 IWWF World Water Ski Show Tournament, which was scheduled for March 21-22 in Yarrawonga, New South Wales, Australia.

In a statement, the IWWF said: The COVID-19 situation is spiraling out of control around the world. IWWF’s position is the creation and maintenance of a safe environment for the community, athletes, officials and volunteers. At this juncture, the IWWF is unable to fulfil this goal at the upcoming IWWF World Water Ski Show Tournament. The IWWF regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2020 IWWF World Water Ski Show Tournament. This decision has not been taken lightly and the IWWF feels for the athletes who have already traveled to Australia.
