14 Athletes Win U.S. Open Ski Racing Titles

Cameron King won Men's Open and 17-35 Men titles.Fourteen water ski racing athletes won titles at the 15th annual U.S. Open Water Ski Racing National Championships, Oct. 5-6, at Havasu Springs in Parker, Ariz. The National Water Ski Racing Association, a sport discipline organization of USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, hosted the two-day competition.

Nearly 40 athletes competed in two rounds of circle-sprint races. The athletes drew for pole positions, made a deep-water start at the drop of a green flag and raced in lanes for a designated number of laps. Athletes competed for titles in 18 divisions. Overall placements were determined by total number of points. In the event of a tie, total race time broke the tie.

Among the highlights, Cameron King (Torrance, Calif.) won the Menís Open and 17-35 Men titles, while Amy Threlfall (Palmdale, Calif.) won the Womenís Open and 17-35 Women titles.

Other athletes earning U.S. Open titles in respective divisions were: Hayley Keenan (Rancho Cucamonga), 16 & Under Girls; Matthew Klee (Harbor City, Calif.), 16 & Under Boys and Menís Outboard; Evan Brooks (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Grassroots; CJ Ferguson (San Pedro, Calif.), Stock Boat and 36-54 Men; Jason Davison (Long Beach, Calif.), Social Open; Justin Legere (Camarillo, Calif.), 60 MPH Open; Cheryl Ruston (La Palma, Calif.), 36 & Over Women; Julia Williams (Long Beach, Calif.), Womenís Outboard; Justin Legere (Camarillo, Calif.) and Brent Griffin (Long Beach, Calif.), Double-Up; Mark Wagner (Westminster, Calif.), Menís Novice; Brian Samaniego (Fullerton, Calif.), Hands Out Front; and Mark Honsowetz (El Segundo, Calif.), 55 & Over Men.

Steve Davis (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Andy Klee (Harbor City, Calif.) earned the awards for top-scoring driver and observer, respectively.
