Athletes Of The Month Selected

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports has selected Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) as its Female Athlete of the Month and Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.) as its Male Athlete of the Month for August. The U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team was selected Team of the Month. Jaquess, Garcia and the U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team are now eligible for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committeeís Best of August Team USA Awards, presented by Dow.

Jaquess, 35, led the way for the U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team at the XVIII Pan American Games, July 24 - Aug. 11, in Lima, Peru, securing gold medals in womenís slalom, jumping and overall. Jaquess won the womenís slalom title on Aug. 7 at the second annual Americaís Cup Invitational at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, Fla. Jaquess won titles in womenís slalom and overall at the 77th GOODE Water Ski National Championships, Aug. 6-10, at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach, Fla. Jaquess earned the silver medal in womenís slalom at the 36th Water Ski World Championships, Aug. 12-18, in Putrajaya, Malaysia. She also earned the bronze medal in womenís jumping and placed fifth overall, leading the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team to the overall team silver medal at the biennial championships.

Garcia, 21, competing in his first Pan American Games, won the gold medal in menís jumping with a distance of 214 feet at the XVIII Pan American Games, July 24 - Aug. 11, in Lima, Peru. Garcia also placed fifth (3 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off) in slalom. He qualified for the overall finals, but withdrew from the event after aggravating a nagging hip injury during the slalom portion of the overall event. Garcia placed fourth in menís jumping and helped lead the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team to the overall team silver medal at the 36th Water Ski World Championships, Aug. 12-18, in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

Six U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team members combined to win eight medals, including five gold, in respective events at the XVIII Pan American Games, July 24-Aug. 11, at Laguna Bujama in Lima, Peru. The U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team finished with five gold medals, two silver and one bronze during the four-day competition. Members of the 2019 U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team were: Andrew Adkison (Chipley, Fla.), Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.), Mary Morgan Howell (Dothan, Ala.), Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.), Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Adam Pickos (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.). Jaquess, 35, led the way for the U.S. team, securing gold medals in womenís slalom (3 buoys at 41 feet off), jumping (171 feet) and overall (2,934.83 points). Garcia, 21, competing in his first Pan American Games, won the gold medal in menís jumping with a distance of 214 feet. Adkison, 37, who earned one of the last two spots in the finals of menís wakeboarding via the Last Chance Qualifier, won the gold medal with a score of 79.33 points. Howell, 16, earned the silver medal in womenís wakeboarding, scoring 79.78 points. Lang, 23, competing in her second Pan American Games, earned the silver medal in womenís tricks, scoring 9,720 points.
