Wonder Lake Wins NSSA Central Regionals

The Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team (Wonder Lake, Ill.) won the team title at the 2019 Central Regional Show Ski Championships, July 13-14, at Hidden Lake in Warsaw, Ind. Wonder Lake earned high-scoring awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show, high individual club act, pyramid, swivel and barefoot on its way to a grand total 1,689.37 points. The Backwater Gamblers (Rock Island, Ill.), which earned high-scoring awards for ballet and jump, placed second with 1,518.93 points.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

Individual event winners were: Brea Imse (Wheeling, Ill.), swivel (15.80 points); Tim Cejka (Whitewater, Wis.) and Maleah Beggs (Belvidere, Ill.), doubles (13.57 points); Arik Lebda (Buffalo Grove, Ill.), freestyle jumping (544.17 points); and Wonder Lake (Wonder Lake, Ill.), team jumping (55.74 points).
