2019 U.S. Elite Water Ski Team Selected

The American Water Ski Associationís International Activities Committee has announced the selection of the 2019 U.S. Elite Water Ski Team. The six-member team will compete in the 36th Water Ski World Championships, Aug. 13-18, in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The athletes were selected to the team based on a pre-determined selection criteria approved by the American Water Ski Associationís board of directors.

Athletes selected to the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team were (alphabetical order): Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.), Anna Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.), Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.), Freddy Kreuger (Winter Garden, Fla.), Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Adam Pickos (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.). Jeff Surdej (Wilmington, Ill.) will be the coach, Jody Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) will serve as team captain, and Dr. Marc Aiken (Johnson City, Tenn.) will be the team physician.

The United States is seeking to win the world team gold medal for the 28th time in the history of the event. The United States is the defending world champion.

In addition to the coveted world team title, athletes from more than 25 countries will compete for individual medals in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall at the Worlds. Defending individual gold medalists are: Jacinta Carroll (Australia), womenís jumping; Ryan Dodd (Canada), menís jumping; Neilly Ross (Canada), womenís tricks; Regina Jaquess (USA), womenís slalom and overall; Adam Pickos (USA), menís tricks; Felipe Miranda (Chile), menís overall; and Frederick Winter (Great Britain), menís slalom.
