U.S. Riders Qualify For World Beach Games

Photography by Lynn NovakofskiU.S. wakeboard athletes Guenther Oka (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Meagan Ethell (Orlando, Fla.) won the menís and womenís wakeboarding titles, respectively, on Wednesday at the 2019 USA Wakeboard Team Selection Trials at the Orlando Watersports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The victories earned Oka and Ethell the two available wakeboarding spots for the U.S. contingent that will compete in the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games, Oct. 12-16, in Qatar.

Oka scored 84.22 points to earn the narrow victory over Tyler Higham (Orlando, Fla.), who tallied 82.11 points. Ethell scored 75.22 points in edging Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.), who tallied 71.89 points. For complete results, visit http://www.iwwfed-ea.org/boatwake/19USA01/.

Photography by Lynn Novakofski.A total of 48 athletes (24 men and 24 women) from federations around the world will be selected to compete in menís and womenís wakeboarding and water ski jumping at the ANOC World Beach Games, a multi-sport event. The two U.S. water ski jumpers (one male and one female) will be selected based on the International Water Ski & Wakeboard Federationís world rankings list and announced at a later date.

The event is organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees.
