In Memoriam – Hal Stata, 1945-2018

Hal Stata, who was deeply involved in tournament water skiing and the marine industry throughout his life, passed away on Nov. 29 at age 73. He began his love of mechanics and boats and speed in the 1960s and was involved with the Austin Ski School in St Pete, Fla., Florida Southern College Ski Team, Mercury Marine and MasterCraft Boat Co., and chief mechanic for the ‘Miller High Life Six Pack Navy’ boat race team.

He had a love of competition and things that went fast, whether it be water skiing, race cars, both real and remote control, dirt bikes and hunting, not to mention he could fix anything. He repaired firearms for two gun-shops in Lakeland, Fla.; was a former member and officer of the Lakeland Rifle and Pistol Club; a member and avid National Bench Rest Shooters Association participant; and, was the proprietor of the Roebuck, Va., Clinch Mountain Hunt Club. Hal’s commanding personality is missed by his family and remembered by all those he has met over his lifetime.
