Jaquess, Krueger Win King of Darkness Titles

U.S. water ski athletes Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) and Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) won Open Women and Open Men jumping titles, respectively, on Saturday at the 3rd annual King of Darkness, sponsored by MasterCraft, at the Isles of Lake Hancock in Winter Garden, Fla. Some of the world’s top water ski athletes will competed under the lights for cash prizes. Under 23 men’s and women’s jumping events also took place, in addition to exhibitions in slalom and tricks, and adaptive water skiing.

Jaquess won the Open Women jumping title, soaring 174 feet. U.S. athlete Lauren Morgan, the top seed for the finals, finished second with a distance of 165 feet.

Krueger won the Open Men jumping title on his first attempt in the finals with a distance of 226 feet. Russia’s Igor Morozov finished second with a distance of 225 feet.

In other events, U.S. athlete Brooke Baldwin (Winter Garden, Fla.) won the Under 23 Women’s title with a 157-foot leap, while Great Britain’s Joel Poland won the Under 23 Men’s title with a distance of 208 feet.
