5 Athletes Win Titles At America's Cup

Five athletes won titles on Friday night at the inaugural America’s Cup Invitational at the Mystic Lakes Ski Club. The event featured U.S. athletes competing in men’s and women’s slalom, tricks, jumping and overall with a total cash-prize purse of $40,000. The Open division at the 76th GOODE Water Ski National Championships – being held at Mystic Lakes through Saturday – served as the qualifying round for the America's Cup Invitational, which took place under the lights following the conclusion of Friday’s Nationals’ events.

Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) won three women’s titles – slalom (4-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off), jumping (159 feet) and overall (3,649.1 points), while Kennedy Hansen (Milton, Fla.) won women’s tricks (7,950 points). In the men’s events, Ryan Canepa (Elk Grove, Calif.) won slalom (6 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off, Adam Pickos (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) won tricks (10,210 points) and Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) won jumping (209 feet).

Towboat manufacturers Malibu (women’s slalom), MasterCraft (men’s jumping) and Ski Nautique (men’s slalom and women’s jumping) pulled the event. Athletes could choose between the three boats for the tricks event.
