Hartwick Huskys Win D2 Show Ski Nationals

The Hartwick Huskys (Delhi, Iowa) won the team title at the 18th Division 2 Show Ski National Championships, Aug. 4-5, at Shorewood Park in Loves Park, Ill. Hosted by the Ski Broncs Water Ski Club, the tournament featured five teams competing for the Division 2 show ski national title. The Division 2 Show Ski National Championships is comprised of teams and/or individuals not qualified by their respective regions for next weekend’s 44th Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships, presented by Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

The Hartwick Huskys tallied a grand total of 1,255.7 points in winning the Division 2 national title for the third time (2009, 2011, 2018). The Brown’s Lake Aquaducks (Burlington, Wis.), the 2017 Division 2 national champion, finished second (1,227.67 points), followed by the Arch Rivals (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) with 1,183 points. Silver Lake (Fenton, Mich.) and the Ski Sprites (Altoona, Wis.) rounded out the five placements with 1,149.9 points and 957.3 points, respectively.

The winners of the Best Female and Male skier awards (sponsored by Cathy and Gerry Luiting, Show Ski Solutions) were Ellen Leahy (Linden, Mich.) and Marty Pottebaum (Earlville, Iowa).

The Division 2 Show Ski National Championships also featured athletes competing individually in adagio doubles and swivel. Kate Draeger (Minocqua, Wis.) won swivel, scoring 12.74 points; and Rick Legois and Denise Legois (Burlington, Wis.) won doubles with 11.17 points.
