River Rats Win NSSA Midwest Regionals

The Twin Cities River Rats (Minneapolis, Minn.) won the team title at the 2018 Midwest Regional Show Ski Championships, July 28-29, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The River Rats earned top awards for pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show, ballet and jump on the way to tallying 1,767.07 points. The Little Crow Ski Team (New London, Minn.) placed second with 1,629.03 points in the six-team field.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

The Midwest Regional Show Ski Championships also featured a Division 2 team competition and athletes competing individually in adagio doubles, swivel, freestyle jumping and team jumping acts.
