Rock Aqua Jays Win WI State Show Ski Title

The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) won the team title at the 52nd Wisconsin State Show Ski Championships on Sunday at Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids. The Rock Aqua Jays earned high-scoring awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving (tie), high individual clubs act, jump, barefoot and pyramid on the way to tallying a grand total of 1,870.06 points and winning the state title for the 18th time.

The Mad-City Ski Team (Madison, Wis.), the 2017 Wisconsin State champion, placed second with 1,737.38 points after earning high-scoring awards for towboat driving (tie), showmanship, sound crew total and overall show.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

The Wisconsin State Show Ski Championships, which included 26 teams competing across three divisions, also featured athletes competing individually in adagio doubles, swivel, freestyle jumping and team jumping acts.
