Rock Aqua Jays Win City Of Lakes Invitational

The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) won the team title on Saturday at the 2018 City of Lakes Invitational in Warsaw, Ind. The Rock Aqua Jays swept top awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show and high individual club act on the way to tallying a grand total of 1,636.4 points. The host Lake City Skiers (Warsaw, Ind.) placed second (1,307.23 points) and Silver Lake (Fenton, Mich.) finished third (1,126.3 points) in the five-team field.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

Chippewa Lake (Chippewa Lake, Ohio) and Grand City (Grand Rapids, Mich.) rounded out the team standings with 1,006.1 points and 687.37 points, respectively.

The City of Lakes Invitational also featured athletes competing individually in adagio doubles, swivel, and team jumping acts.
