Baldwin Wins Jumping At 26th Junior Masters

Brooke BaldwinU.S. water ski athlete Brooke Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.) won the junior women’s jumping title on Friday at the 26th Nautique Junior Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament at Callaway Gardens’ Robin Lake in Pine Mountain, Ga. Baldwin won the event with a distance of 137 feet. Late afternoon thunderstorms caused two separate one-hour delays during the jump event, and the finals were never able to get under way due to the weather. Officials decided to use the elimination round scores in jumping as the final scores.

Other champions from the Junior Masters were: Canada’s Paige Rini – junior women’s slalom (2 buoys at 38 feet off), tricks (8,020 points) and overall; France’s Louis Duplan-Fribourg – junior men’s tricks (10,500 points), jumping (177 feet) and overall; and Colombia’s Federico Jaramillo – junior men’s slalom (2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off). Jaramillo tied the course record in earning the victory.

U.S. athlete Sean Hunter (Dothan, Ala.) finished in second place (Sean Hunter5-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off) in junior men’s slalom. Hunter also tied the course record in the elimination round to earn the top seed for the finals.

Among other highlights from U.S. athletes, Kristen Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.) placed third in junior women’s tricks (5,570 points); Kassidy Hawkins (Paducah, Ky.) placed third in junior women’s slalom (4 buoys at 35 feet off); and Blake Keller (New Hartford, Conn.) placed third in junior men’s jumping (170 feet). All three were competing in their first Junior Masters.
