In Memoriam: Jerry Woodard, 1942-2018

Jerry Woodard, a long-time member of the American Water Ski Association, passed away peacefully on Wednesday after a long illness. The resident of Slidell, La., was 75 years old. Until his illness, Jerry was a very active, long-time member of AWSA’s South Central Region and the New Orleans Water Ski Club. He was a senior judge, senior scorer, regional councilman, and the biggest supporter of his wife Margaret Ann's many skiing accomplishments.

He served as chief judge of the 1992 Water Ski National Championships in Destin, Fla. When competition water skiing "went global," Jerry was one of the first Pan American judges from the South Central Region. He was a pioneer of water skiing on the worldwide web and served as webmaster for the South Central Region’s website for many years. Jerry truly loved the sport of tournament water skiing and supported it with all of his heart and soul. He is survived by Margaret Ann and a host of many other friends and family.

The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, at St. Luke's Church in Slidell, La., with a visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., mass at 11 a.m., and interment at the veteran's cemetery in Slidell, with military honors, for Jerry's 26 years in the U.S. Coast Guard.
