Athletes Of The Month Selected

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports has selected Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) as its Female Athlete of the Month and Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) as its Male Athlete of the Month for March. The U.S. Wakeboard Team has been selected Team of the Month.

Lang won the womenís tricks title at the 58th Moomba Masters International Invitational, presented by Nautique, March 9-12, on the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia. Lang scored 9,240 points to win the title over Belarusí Natallia Berdnikava (9,040 points) and Germanyís Giannina Bonnemann (8,500 points). Lang, who won Moomba Masters tricks titles in 2013 and 2014, had finished runner-up in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Smith won the menís slalom title at the 58th Moomba Masters International Invitational, presented by Nautique, March 9-12, on the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia. Smith scored a Moomba Mastersí course record 3 buoys at 41 feet off in the finals to win the title over Canadaís Stephen Neveu (2 buoys at 41 feet off) and Switzerlandís Benjamin Stadlbaur (1 buoy at 41 feet off). Smith had finished runner-up at the Moomba Masters in 2016 and 2017. Smith also won the menís slalom title at the Latrobe City International Open, March 3-4, at the Latrobe Valley Water Ski Club on Lake Narracanís Halls Bay in Victoria, Australia. Smith, the top seed for the finals after scoring 2 buoys at 41 feet off in the preliminary round, scored 5-1/2 buoys at 41 feet off in the finals to earn the victory over Great Britainís Will Asher (5 buoys at 41 feet off).

The U.S. Wakeboard Team placed fourth and three U.S. athletes earned individual medals at the 12th IWWF Wakeboard World Championships, March 19-24, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Australia won the gold medal (640.00 points), while defending champion Italy earned the silver (635.00 points) and Argentina took home the bronze (445.00 points). The United States tallied 290.00 points in earning its fourth-place finish in the 25-team field.

Members of the 2018 U.S. Wakeboard Team were: Dayle Cartwright (Naples, Fla.), Veteran Men; Adam Fields (Littleton, N.C.), Masters Men; Dallas Friday (Orlando, Fla.), Open Women; Adam Money (Orlando, Fla.), Masters Men; and Kim Wysocki (Chesterfield, Mich.), Masters Women. Cathy Williams (Murray, Ky.) was the team manager and Fields was the team captain. At the Worlds, riders were scored on Composition, Intensity and Execution. Fields earned the silver medal in Masters Men, scoring 49.11 points in the finals; Friday earned the silver medal in Open Women, scoring 65.78 points in the finals; and Cartwright earned the bronze medal in Veteran Men, scoring 58.89 points in the finals.†
