Four Athletes Win National Hydrofoil Titles

Four athletes won national titles at the 7th USHA Hydrofoil Nationals, Aug. 17-19, at Traxler Park in Janesville, Wis. Fifteen of the nation's top hydrofoil athletes competed during the three-day event, which was hosted by the Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Club and conducted by the United States Hydrofoil Association in conjunction with the inaugural U.S. Wake Sports Festival.

Divisions consisted of Novice/Intermediate, Advanced/Open, and Outlaw/Pro, and athletes competed in free ride (four passes in which the best scoring 10 tricks count), 3-trick (the best scoring three tricks on pass one and best scoring three tricks on pass two; better of the two passes counts) and big air (three attempts or two falls; biggest trick counts). Tricks were scored on technical difficulty, air and style.

In Novice/Intermediate, Wendy Neil (Albuquerque, N.M.) swept titles in 3-trick, free ride, big air and overall. In Advanced/Open, Dan Sazama (Waukesha, Wis.) won free ride, big air and overall, while Leland Speed (Brazoria, Texas) won 3-trick. In Outlaw/Pro, Geno Yauchler (Winter Haven, Fla.) swept titles in free ride, 3-trick, big air and overall. For complete results, click here.

.Hydrofoil clinics, disabled water ski clinics and the 2017 Ante Up Freestyle Jump Competition also were held as part of the U.S. Wake Sports Festival. Arik Lebda (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) won the Advanced Division in the Ante Up Freestyle Jump Competition, while Austin Walstad (Zumbrota, Minn.) won the Intermediate Division and JT Morris (Lake Delton, Wis.) won the Beginner Division.
