Smith Wins Menís Slalom At Canadian Open

Nate SmithU.S. water ski athlete Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) won the menís slalom title on Sunday at the 2017 Canadian Open at Shalom Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Smith scored 1 buoy at 43 feet off to take the title over Italyís Thomas Degasperi, who scored 3 buoys at 41 feet off. Great Britainís Will Asher placed third (3 buoys at 41 feet off) and U.S. athletes Jon Travers (Groveland, Fla.) and Cory Vaughn (Bumpass, Va.) finished fourth (2 buoys at 41 feet off) and fifth (2 buoys at 41 feet off), respectively.

Canadaís Whitney McClintock won the womenís slalom title, scoring 4 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off.†

In menís jumping, Canadaís Ryan Dodd won the title with a distance of 225 feet. U.S. athlete Scot Ellis (Auburndale, Fla.) finished second (212 feet). U.S. athlete Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.), competing in his first tournament since suffering injuries in a crash at the U.S. Masters in May, finished sixth.
