2017 U.S. Elite Water Ski Team Selected

The American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee has announced the selections for the 2017 U.S. Elite Water Ski Team. The team will compete in the 35th Water Ski World Championships, Sept. 3-10, at Choisy-le-Roi near Paris, France. The selections were made based on a pre-determined selection criteria approved by the American Water Ski Associationís board of directors.

Athletes selected to the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team were (alphabetical order): Brooke Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.), Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.), Anna Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.), Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.), Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Adam Pickos (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.).

Jeff Surdej (Wilmington, Ill.) will be the coach, Jody Johnson (Nashville, Tenn.) will serve as team captain, and Dr. Brad Harman (Alvarado, Texas) will be the team physician.

In addition to the coveted world team title, athletes from more than 25 countries will compete for individual medals in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall at the Worlds. Canada is the defending world champion. Defending individual gold medalists are: Jacinta Carroll (Australia), womenís jumping; Ryan Dodd (Canada), menís jumping; Anna Gay (USA), womenís tricks; Regina Jaquess (USA), womenís slalom and overall; Adam Pickos (USA), menís tricks; Adam Sedlmajer (Czech Republic), menís overall; and Nate Smith (USA), menís slalom.
