Mad-City Ski Team Wins Wisconsin State

The Mad-City Ski Team (Madison, Wis.) won the Division 1 team title at the 51st Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships, July 20-23, at Lake Wazeecha’s Red Sands Beach in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Hosted by the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers, the tournament featured 24 teams in three divisions. The Mad-City Ski Team tallied 1,892.22 points after earning top scores for dock and equipment personnel, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show, barefoot and pyramid.

In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.

The Rock Aqua Jays (Janesville, Wis.) finished second with 1,834.18 points and the Aquanuts (Twin Lakes, Wis.) placed third with 1,731.38 points.

The Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships also featured a Division 2 team competition, Division 3 team competition, and athletes competing individually in adagio doubles, swivel, freestyle jumping and team jumping acts.
