Garcia, Hansen Earn Best Of June Honors

USA Water Ski has selected Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.) as its Male Athlete of the Month and Kennedy Hansen (Milton, Fla.) as its Female Athlete of the Month for June. Garcia and Hansen are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee’s Best of June Team USA Awards, presented by Dow.

Taylor GarciaGarcia, 19, won titles in Junior Men slalom, jumping and overall at the 17th Malibu Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 24-25, at Ski Chaste Lake in Axis, Ala. The two-round, world-record capability event featured Junior Men and Junior Women (ages 17 to 21) and Boys and Girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Garcia scored 3 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off in winning slalom and soared 193 feet to win jumping. In addition to winning the division’s overall title with 3,000.0 points, he also placed third in tricks. Garcia also set a personal best slalom score of 2 buoys at 41 feet off at the 2017 Lake 38 World Record Slalom Tournament on June 18 in Point Milligan, Fla.

Kennedy HansenHansen, 14, won titles in Girls’ tricks and overall at the 17th Malibu Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 24-25, at Ski Chaste Lake in Axis, Ala. The two-round, world-record capability event featured Junior Men and Junior Women (ages 17 to 21) and Boys and Girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Hansen scored 6,560 points in winning tricks and tallied 2,919.0 points in winning the division’s overall title.
