The National Show Ski Association has announced that Jeremy Armstrong of Winter Haven, Fla., and Gerry Luiting of Janesville, Wis., will be the co-show directors for the 2018 USA Water Ski Show Team that will compete in the 2018 World Show Ski Championships. The fourth biennial tournament will be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Teams from the United States, Australia, Canada, China and Belgium have competed in the first three world championships with the United States winning all three times in 2012, 2014 and 2016. Exact dates for the 2018 event have yet to be determined.
Armstrong and Luiting were members of the USA Water Ski Show Team in 2012, 2014 and 2016 and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the leadership positions.
Armstrong, 39, started water skiing with the Capital City Ski Team and later the Mad-City Ski Team, and has been a professional show skier for the past 20 years at places such as Tommy Bartlett’s in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Holiday Park in Germany, Marine World in California, LEGOLAND Florida, the Changlong Night Zoo in China, Kishkinta, an amusement park in India, and various road shows world wide. He has been the show director at Tommy Bartlett’s since 2006 in addition to owning and operating Absolute Aqua Sports in Winter Haven, Fla., where he teaches everything from show skiing and hang gliding to flyboarding and hydrofoiling. “Water skiing has been such a large part of my life, it is an honor to represent our country on this global stage as co-show director with a longtime friend in Gerry Luiting. We cannot wait to get to work. Team USA in Canada in 2018 will be an amazing experience.”
Luiting, 58, is a longtime member of the 19-time national champion Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team, where he has served as its show director five times over the past 42 years. Luiting also has skied professionally for Tommy Bartlett’s in Wisconsin, H2O Events at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in China, Cypress Gardens road shows, Stars on Water and Stars of Florida. He and his wife, Cathy, won seven national doubles titles and were inducted into the USA Water Ski Foundation’s Water Ski Hall of Fame in 2016. “We are very honored and humbled to have been selected to represent our country as co-Show Directors of Team USA in 2018,” Luiting said. “We are looking forward to working with the U.S. team and reuniting with the other world teams at the tournament.”
The majority of the roster for the 2018 USA Water Ski Show Team is expected to be announced at the 2017 Indmar Marine Engines Show Ski National Championships, presented by Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing, Aug. 11-13, in Loves Park, Ill. Application information for the 2018 USA Water Ski Show Team will be made available in the near future.
