Krueger, Desboyaux Win Moomba Titles

U.S. athletes Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Franck Desboyaux (Windermere, Fla.) won titles in respective events at the 57th Moomba Masters International Invitational, presented by Nautique, March 10-13, on the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia.
Krueger won the menís jumping title Ė soaring a Moomba Mastersí course-record 237 feet in the finals Ė over Canadaís Ryan Dodd (229 feet), who set a course-record of 232 feet in the semifinals. It was Kruegerís eighth career Moomba Masters title. U.S. athletes Zack Worden (Orlando, Fla.) and Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.) placed third (221 feet) and eighth (204 feet), respectively.
Desboyaux won the menís tricks title, scoring 10,630 points in the finals. Franceís Pierre Ballon finished second (10,160 points) and Adam Sedlmajer of the Czech Republic placed third (9,920 points). U.S. athletes Jimmy Siemers (Round Rock, Texas), Russell Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Dylan Schaffer (Owens Cross Roads, Ala.) placed fourth (9,920 points), fifth (9,170 points) and seventh (6,950 points), respectively.
Other athletes winning titles were: Canadaís Whitney McClintock, womenís slalom (1 buoy at 39-1/2 feet off) and overall (2,546.79 points); Czech Republic's Adam Sedlmajer, men's overall (2,977.16 points); Italyís Thomas Degasperi, menís slalom (3 buoys at 41 feet off, course record tie); Canadaís Neilly Ross, womenís tricks (9,920 points); and Australiaís Jacinta Carroll, womenís jumping (186 feet, course record).
Other highlights from U.S. athletes competing: Anna Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.) placed third in womenís overall (2,321.03 points) and sixth in slalom (1/2 buoy at 38 feet off) and tricks (7,390 points); Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) finished second in womenís tricks (9,670 points); Alex Lauretano (Windermere, Fla.) placed second in womenís jumping (175 feet); Dylan Schaffer (Owens Cross Roads, Ala.), placed third in men's overall (2,430.36 points); Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) finished second in menís slalom (1-1/2 buoys at 41 feet off); and Karen Truelove (Winter Garden, Fla.) placed fourth in womenís slalom (3 buoys at 38 feet off). Gay also broke her own course record of 9,920 points (2016) with a score of 10,350 points in the preliminary round of womenís tricks.
In the night competitions, Smith won the menís slalom title (1 buoy at 41 feet off) over Great Britainís Freddie Winter (4 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off), while Dodd won the jumping title (213 feet) over Krueger (201 feet).
