At the meeting of the USA Water Ski board of directors on January 29, 2017, the following change was approved and is being brought to your attention for review per Article XI Amendments of the USA Water Ski Bylaws.
Every ten years the organization reviews the status of each of the Sport Disciplines and, based on the membership numbers and other criteria per Article V section I, determines the status of each Sport Discipline for the following ten years. In the past, only the Primary membership numbers have been used as one of the determining factors, but with the following change to the USA-WS Bylaws, the USA-WS Board of Directors shall use the Primary and Secondary Sport Discipline selections that are selected by the members, when applying the total membership numbers to maintain Sport Discipline status according to Article V Section I USA-WS Bylaws.
The board approved, at the January 29 meeting, to insert the words “This membership number will include the Primary Sport Discipline and Secondary Sport Discipline choices combined per the Primary/Secondary membership table in the current version of the USA-WS Policies and Procedures Manual” into Article V Section I as noted below in bold italics.
Change to read:
ARTICLE V Membership, Voting Rights and Affiliation
I. A Sport Discipline may be disenfranchised should any one or more of the following conditions exist: (i) membership of the Sport Discipline falls below 1/2 of 1% of USA-WS total individual membership. This membership number will include the Primary Sport Discipline and Secondary Sport Discipline choices combined per the Primary/Secondary membership table in the current version of the USA-WS Policies and Procedures Manual; (ii) failure to meet financial obligations or maintain financial stability; (iii) cause discredit to the public image of USA-WS, International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation or the USOC; (iv) failure to hold a national championship on consecutive years. Disenfranchising a Sport Discipline requires a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Board.
This change to the USA-WS Bylaws will become effective on April 1, 2017 unless a referendum is called for per Article XI Amendments of the USA-WS Bylaws. The USA-WS Policies and Procedures Manual will also be updated in the appropriate sections to place the operational procedures in place on that date.
