USA Water Ski, the largest and most active water ski and wakeboard federation in the world, and Boatbound, the nation’s fastest growing peer-to-peer boat rental marketplace, today announced the launch of their partnership, in support of USA Water Ski’s “Life on the Water” initiative, making boats and towed sports more accessible and affordable.
The USA Water Ski and Boatbound partnership will leverage Boatbound’s boat rental marketplace to give those that do not own a boat access to an extensive inventory of boats at affordable price points, enabling users to get out on the water, wherever they may be, for less.
With 51 percent of water skiers in the U.S. ranging in the age between 18 and 44 years old, the demographic of the sport is a perfect fit for Boatbound, whose platform is bringing boating to a younger generation familiar with the concept of the sharing economy and the many economic advantages of the peer-to-peer model.
The increased cost of boat ownership over the years (an average competition ski boat now costs well over $60,000) has inhibited even the most avid boaters and water sport enthusiasts from getting out on the water. Affordability and accessibility have been two major barriers to growth of water sports. Now, with Boatbound's peer-to-peer platform, the game has changed.
"From weekend warriors to professional athletes hosting clinics around the country, our members need boats and Boatbound has them," said Bob Crowley, executive director of USA Water Ski. "Boatbound enables people to water ski, wakeboard, barefoot and share life on the water with friends anywhere, anytime. We are pleased to have Boatbound on board as a new partner."
"We’re big fans of all water sports and through this partnership hope to continue to build the sport by giving USA Water Ski members access and discounts to awesome ski and wakeboard boats where they can hone their skills, backing up-and-coming athletes, and promoting Team USA," said Aaron Hall, Founder and CEO of Boatbound.
