7 U.S. Athletes Win Junior U.S. Open Titles

Seven U.S. water ski athletes won titles in respective events at the 14th annual Lake Dwellers Junior U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, June 7-8, at Bullneck Lake in Scott, Ark. The two-round, world-record capability event featured Men and Women divisions (ages 17 to 21), in addition to Boys and Girls divisions (ages 16 and under). Some of the world's top junior water ski athletes competed for titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.
U.S. athletes winning titles were: Samantha Dumala (Wellington, Fla.), Girls' slalom (1 buoy at 38 feet off); Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.), Boys' jumping (179 feet) and slalom (3 buoys at 38 feet off); Abbi Grathwohl (Martindale, Texas), Girls' jumping (120 feet) and overall (2,597.7 points); Nick Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.), Boys' tricks (6,950 points) and overall (2,967.0 points); Lauren Morgan (Odessa, Fla.), Women's jumping (167 feet); Dylan Schaffer (Owens Cross Roads, Ala.), Men's tricks (9,120 points); and K.C. Wilson (Winter Springs, Fla.), Men's slalom (5 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off).
Other athletes winning titles were: Giannina Bonnemann (Germany), Women's tricks (8,170 points) and overall (2,860.2 points); Taryn Grant (Canada), Women's slalom (3 buoys at 38 feet off); Martin Kolman (Czech Republic), Men's jumping (202 feet) and overall (3,000.0 points); and Neilly Ross (Cananda), Girls' tricks (7,630 points).
