Midwest Regions Wins NCWSA All-Stars

The National Collegiate Water Ski Associationís Midwest Region won the coveted team title at the 20th Collegiate All-Stars Water Ski Championships, May 17-18, at Stillwater Lakes in Palm Bay, Fla. The two-day event included the top-10 men and top-10 women from each of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association's four regions vying for the coveted regional team title and individual titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.
The Midwest Region tallied 10,385 points in winning the team title. The defending champion Eastern Region finished runner-up with 9,090 points, followed by the Western Region (5,735 points) and the South Central Region (3,440 points).
Individual event winners were: Florida Southern's K.C. Wilson (Winter Springs, Fla.), men's slalom (4 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off); Louisiana-Lafayette's Dylan Schaffer (Owens Cross Roads, Ala.), men's tricks (7,050 points); Indianaís Briant Detty (Danville, Ind.) and Rollins' Drew Phillips (Winter Park, Fla.), men's jumping (tie Ė 135 feet); San Diego State's Robert Morris (San Diego, Calif.), men's overall (900 points); Louisiana-Monroe's Janice Stevens (Morrisburg, Ontario, Canada), women's slalom (1 buoy at 35 feet off) and tricks (2,930 points); Florida Southern's Ellie Horton (Moorpark, Calif.), women's jumping (109 feet); and Western Washington's Jaye Morris (San Diego, Calif.), women's overall (770 points).
Schaffer's score of 7,050 points in men's tricks is a pending National Collegiate Water Ski Association record. U.S. athlete Jimmy Siemers (Arizona State) set the current record of 6,820 points at the 2005 Collegiate All-Stars Water Ski Championships.
