The contest encouraged the USA Water Ski membership and sport discipline organizations to get more people on the water and affiliate with USA Water Ski.

"Membership is the life’s blood of every national governing body," said Bob Crowley, USA Water Ski's executive director. "We are constantly asking what we can do to stimulate membership growth to ensure the long-term viability of the association and of the sport. We count on our clubs and people in all parts of the country to promote participation and ultimately membership with USA Water Ski. We congratulate all of the members and clubs who helped increase growth and participation in 2013, and we look forward to continuing the initiative in 2014."

The respective challenges and winners from 2013 were as follows:

1. AWSA Regional Challenge: USA Water Ski challenged the five regions of the American Water Ski Association to see how many new members they could bring to USA Water Ski. Members had to be registered in the Active (Full Active, Family Active or Under 25) or GrassRoots categories. The Midwest Region – consisting of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin – brought in a high of 334 new members and will receive an incentive bonus of $200 to be used as the region determines.

2. Club Membership Growth Challenge: USA Water Ski challenged all of its 600 USA Water Ski clubs to see which club could enroll the most new USA Water Ski members in 2013. Members had to be registered in the Active (Full Active, Family Active or Under 25) or GrassRoots categories. The Aquanut Water Shows (Twin Lakes, Wis.) brought in 44 new members and will receive a free club membership for 2014 and a $100 donation to be used as the club determines.

3. Club Sanctioning Challenge: USA Water Ski challenged all of its affiliated clubs to see which one could host the most sanctioned events in three separate categories – Basic Skills clinics; stand-alone GrassRoots tournaments; and Officials' clinics. UCanSki2 (Winter Haven, Fla.) hosted 13 Basic Skills Clinics; the Berkeley Water Ski Club (Berkeley, Calif.) hosted 12 stand-alone GrassRoots events; and the Ski Club of the Palm Beaches (West Palm Beach, Fla.) hosted seven officials’ clinics. Each club will receive $100 to be used toward sanctioning fees for 2014.

4. Collegiate Challenge: USA Water Ski challenged its collegiate clubs – this included clubs with the National Collegiate Water Ski Association and the registered collegiate clubs through USA Wakeboard – to promote membership. The University of Wisconsin (Madison, Wis.) Water Ski and Wakeboard Team brought in 38 new members and will receive a complimentary USA Water Ski membership for 2014 and a $100 donation to be used as the team determines.
