The Waterhawks Ski Team (Waterloo, Iowa) won the team title at the 2013 Midwest Regional Show Ski Championships, July 26-28, in Evandsale, Iowa. The tournament included eight teams competing for the regional title.
The Waterhawks swept box score awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total and overall show, and added high-scoring acts in pyramid and ballet in tallying a grand total of 1,592.74 points.
The Twin Cities River Rats (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished runner-up with 1,546.21 points, followed by Five Seasons Ski Team (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) with 1,405.57 points.
In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on execution, difficulty, spectator appeal and flow. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.
The Midwest Regionals also featured athletes competing individually in adagio doubles, swivel, and multi-jumping acts.
