USA Water Ski has selected Freddy Krueger (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) as its Male Athlete of the Month and Female Athlete of the Month, respectively, for May. The Central Washington University wakeboard team (Ellensburg, Wash.) was selected team of the month. Krueger, Jaquess and the Central Washington University wakeboard team are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee's Athlete and Team of the Month honors.
Krueger soared 231 feet on his first of three jumping attempts in the finals to clinch his 11th career Masters' men's jumping title at the 54th Masters Water Ski Tournament, May 25-26, on Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. Krueger also won the men's jumping title at the IWWF Water Ski & Wakeboard World Cup event, May 3-5, in Palembang, Indonesia, with a distance of 210 feet.
Jaquess set a new women's slalom course record for Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga., with a score of 3 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off, clinching her second consecutive and fourth career Masters' women's slalom title at the 54th Masters Water Ski Tournament, May 25-26. Jaquess also advanced to the finals of women's jumping at the 54th Masters, finishing in fourth place. Jaquess also won the Open Women slalom title for the second consecutive year, scoring 4 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off, at the 2013 Atlanta Pro-Am on May 27 at Princeton Lake in Atlanta, Ga.
The Central Washington University Wakeboard Team won the national title at the 13th Collegiate Wakeboard National Championships, May 24-26, on the Red River in Shreveport, La. Central Washington tallied 610 points in winning over runner-up Florida Gulf Coast University (495 points) and third-place Wisconsin (395 points). Twelve teams competed in the event.
Members of the Central Washington University wakeboard team were: Kyler Green (Ellensburg, Wash.), Sean Harris (Ellensburg, Wash.), Pat Mahoney (Ellensburg, Wash.), Thomas Olson (Ellensburg, Wash.), Amanda Parker (Ellensburg, Wash.), Eddie Roberts III (Redmond, Wash.) and Chelsea Worland (Ellensburg, Wash.). Central Washington riders won titles in four of seven divisions. Green won the Men's A title, scoring 83.33 points; Olson won Men's B, scoring 94.67 points; Roberts won Men's C, scoring 91.67 points; and Harris won Men's D, scoring 91.33 points.
