U.S. Teams Sweep Can Am Titles

The U.S. Under 17 and Under 13 Water Ski Teams each won titles at the 5th Can Am Challenge, Sept. 1-2, at the Lake of Dreams in Jerseyville, Ill. The two-day, world-record capability event featured team competitions between Canada and the United States. A six-member Under 17 Team and a six-member Under 13 Team represented each country.

Members of the U.S. Under 17 Water Ski Team were: Julianna Boskus (Elkins, Ark.), Christian DeVito (San Diego, Calif.), Abbi Grathwohl (McQueeney, Texas), Ellie Horton (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Dane Mechler (Loveland, Ohio) and Jaye Morris (San Diego, Calif.).

The U.S. Under 17 Water Ski Team tallied 8,203.6 points to Canada’s 8,138.0 points. Team scores were based on the top-three team members’ overall scores for each of the three events (slalom, tricks and jumping).

Members of the U.S. Under 13 Water Ski Team were: Brooke Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.), Kristen Baldwin (Windermere, Fla.), Ryan Canepa (Mill Valley, Calif.), Anna Gay (Winter Garden, Fla.), Taylor Grathwohl (McQueeney, Texas) and Quinn Haines (Avon, Conn.).

The U.S. Under 13 Water Ski Team tallied 8,602.3 points to Canada’s 7,341.7 points. Team scores were based on the top-three team members’ overall scores for each of the three events (slalom, tricks and jumping).

Bob Schouten (Alexander City, Ala.) and Julie Krueger (Santa Fe, Texas) served as captain and coach, respectively.
