NCWSA Announces 2014 Award Recipients

Louisiana-Lafayette's Dylan Schaffer.The National Collegiate Water Ski Association has announced the recipients of its 2014 awards. They will be honored at the USA Water Ski awards reception on Saturday, Jan. 24, at USA Water Ski headquarters in Polk City, Fla. The recipients are as follows: Dylan Schaffer (Owens Cross Roads, Ala.) of Louisiana-Lafayette (Male Athlete of the Year); Manon Costard (France) of Louisiana-Monroe (Female Athlete of the Year); Cole Grant (Canada) of Louisiana-Lafayette (Male Outstanding Leader); Gina Phillipi (Portland, Ore.) of UCLA (Female Outstanding Leader); and Louisiana-Lafayette (Team of the Year).

Louisiana-Monroe Wins Collegiate Nationals

Louisiana-Lafayette's Dane Mechler won the men's slalom title.The University of Louisiana-Monroe water ski team won the Division 1 national title at the 36th Collegiate Water Ski National Championships, Oct. 16-18, at TriLakes in Zachary, La. The Warhawks tallied 12,830 points in winning their fourth consecutive national title and 26th title in the history of the event. The University of Louisiana-Lafayette finished second, scoring 12,415 points.

Midwest Regions Wins NCWSA All-Stars

Dylan Schaffer’s score of 7,050 points in men’s tricks is a pending National Collegiate Water Ski Association record. U.S. athlete Jimmy Siemers (Arizona State) set the current record of 6,820 points at the 2005 Collegiate All-Stars Water Ski Championships.The National Collegiate Water Ski Association’s Midwest Region won the coveted team title at the 20th Collegiate All-Stars Water Ski Championships, May 17-18, at Stillwater Lakes in Palm Bay, Fla. The two-day event included the top-10 men and top-10 women from each of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association's four regions vying for the coveted regional team title and individual titles in slalom, tricks, jumping and overall.

New 'Collegiate Kits' Now Available

USA Water Ski is pleased to announce a new initiative for 2014 to support collegiate water skiing and wakeboarding. Any collegiate water ski or wakeboard club that joins USA Water Ski as an affiliated club will receive a free “Collegiate Kit,” which includes among other items, a handbook containing “how to” tips, checklists and other resources to support a successful year on and off the water.
