Annual Awards Banquet Set For Saturday

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports and its nine sport discipline organizations will honor several of their members on Saturday night at USA Water Ski & Wake Sports’ Annual Awards Banquet, presented by Nautique, at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Fla. The event, which celebrates the 2019 water ski season, will be held in conjunction with USA Water Ski & Wake Sports’ mid-winter board meetings for the 20th consecutive year. The 2019 award winners were selected either by the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Awards Committee or by the respective sport discipline organization.

Get On The Water Week, June 27-July 3

Get On The Water LogoUSA Water Ski & Wake Sports is pleased to announce its inaugural Get on the Water Week will be held June 27-July 3. USA Water Ski & Wake Sports, along with ski clubs across the country, will host free learn to ski events! USA Water Ski & Wake Sports is covering the cost of sanctioning and guest memberships for all ski clubs who participate in Get on the Water Week! The week coincides with the anniversary of Ralph Samuelson being the first to successfully water ski on July 2, 1922.

Club Insurance Program Renewed For 2020

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports and EPIC Entertainment & Sports are pleased to announce the renewal of the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Club Insurance Program for 2020. The program is optional and available exclusively to USA Water Ski & Wake Sports affiliated clubs in good standing.

On behalf of our headquarters staff and board of directors, happy holidays from USA Water Ski & Wake Sports. As a reminder, headquarters will be closed from Dec. 23-Jan. 1. It will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. As 2019 comes to an end, I wanted to wish you and your family the best as we head into the New Year. In Memoriam: Sandy Schraft, 1945-2019

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports is saddened to report the passing of Sandy Schraft. Schraft, 74, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, following a long battle with cancer. She was a beloved member of the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports family of sport disciplines for many years.

2019 USA-WSWS Award Winners Announced

Connor PoggettoUSA Water Ski & Wake Sports and its nine sport discipline organizations are pleased to announce respective award recipients for 2019. Connor Poggetto (Carmichael, Calif.) and Lexi McCauley (Winter Haven, Fla.) have been selected USA Water Ski & Wake Sports’ 2019 Male Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year, respectively. The USA Adaptive Water Ski Team earned USA Water Ski & Wake Sports’ 2019 Team of the Year honors. Jeff Clark (Lakeland, Fla.) was selected as the recipient of the Award of Merit – the organization’s highest award for a volunteer.

In Memoriam - Eddie Roberts, 1945-2019

Eddie Roberts, responsible for many notable innovations in water ski and wakeboard equipment, passed away on Nov. 28. He was 74. Roberts will be honored posthumously on May 2, 2020 with the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation’s Award of Distinction at the 38th USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Orlando, Fla.

Award of Distinction Recipients Announced

The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee is pleased to announce the 2020 recipients of the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation Award of Distinction. The five recipients will be honored along with 2020 Hall of Fame inductees Shaun Murray, Mandy Nightingale and Joe Ray on Saturday, May 2 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Athletes Selected For World Beach Games

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports is pleased to announce the four athletes that will represent the United States at the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games, Oct. 13-14, in Doha, Qatar. Organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees, the ANOC World Beach Games will be held in conjunction with the ANOC General Assembly. Approximately 1,360 athletes representing the five Olympic continents will compete in 17 different sports, including water ski jumping and wakeboarding.

2020 Hall Of Fame Inductees Announced

The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee is pleased to announce the 2020 inductees to the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation Hall of Fame. Wakeboard athlete Shaun Murray, water ski athlete Mandy Nightingale and adaptive water ski athlete Joe Ray will be formally inducted into the hall of fame during the organization's 38th annual ceremony on Saturday, May 2 at Walt Disney’s newly-designed Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Fla. The 2020 recipients of the Award of Distinction are April Coble-Eller, Gene Davis (posthumously), Nikki Lee, Don Mixon Jr., and Eddie Roberts. Ed Brazil will be honored posthumously as the 2020 recipient of the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award.

U.S. Wins 8 Medals At XVIII Pan Am Games

Six U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team members combined to win eight medals, including five gold, in respective events at the XVIII Pan American Games, July 27-30, at Laguna Bujama in Lima, Peru. The U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team finished with five gold medals, two silver and one bronze during the four-day competition. Members of the 2019 U.S. Pan American Water Ski Team were: Andrew Adkison (Chipley, Fla.), Taylor Garcia (Winter Garden, Fla.), Mary Morgan Howell (Dothan, Ala.), Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.), Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Adam Pickos (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.).

SafeSport: Youth Courses Now Available

The U.S. Center for SafeSport Youth Athlete Training courses are now live! These resources include courses for children of pre-school age; grades K-2; grades 3-5; middle school and high school. These free online trainings are designed as an introduction for minor athletes and their parents or other caregivers to understand the importance of positive, welcoming environments in sports, where misconduct like bullying or abuse is less likely to happen, and to know where to report abuse, should it occur.

Membership Alert: Updated MAAP Policies

Effective May 21, 2019, the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports board of directors approved Version IV of the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports SafeSport Handbook (PDF), which includes the updated USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (PDF; extracted from USA-WSWS SafeSport Handbook, Version IV) integrated throughout the Handbook. The SafeSport Handbook includes various policies that apply to all USA Water Ski & Wake Sports members, clubs, programs, events and activities, and specifically includes abuse prevention policies relating to youth athletes and participants. It also acts as an educational tool for USA Water Ski & Wake Sports members.
