Bonifay, Mixon Sr. Elected To Hall Of Fame

The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee has announced wakeboarding sensation Parks Bonifay and barefoot pioneer Don Mixon Sr. will take their place among the sport's immortals in the foundation’s Water Ski & Wake Sports Hall of Fame. The two icons will be enshrined at the 37th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 27, 2019 at Walt Disney World’s Swan & Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Fla. Bonifay and Mixon will be honored for their amazing accomplishments and for the long-lasting impact their contributions have had and will continue to have on the sport.

In Memoriam: Ralph C. Meloon, 1917-2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of boating hall of fame member and industry icon Ralph C. Meloon at the age of 100. The middle of three brothers, Meloon was seven years old when his father Walter C. Meloon moved the family from New Hampshire to Florida and started the Florida Variety Boat Company (now Correct Craft) in 1925. Meloon was involved with the company then and continued his involvement until his death.

Nate Boudreaux Hired As Executive Director

Nate BoudreauxUSA Water Ski & Wake Sports is pleased to announce the hiring of Nate Boudreaux as the organization’s next executive director. Boudreaux, who will begin his new position with the national governing body of organized water skiing and wakeboarding in August, takes over for Bob Crowley, who announced his retirement earlier this year after eight years with the organization.

Hall Of Fame Inducts Rhoni Barton-Bischoff

The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation held its 36th annual hall of fame induction ceremony on Saturday night at Walt Disney World’s Fantasia Ballroom at the Contemporary Resort in Orlando, Fla. Rhoni Barton-Bischoff was enshrined into the USA Water Ski & Wakeboard Foundation's Hall of Fame as the Class of 2018.

Executive Director Announces Retirement

After eight years with the organization, Bob Crowley announced at the January Board of Directors meeting that he will retire from the executive director position with USA Water Ski & Wake Sports in July of this summer. He will stay with the organization while the replacement search is underway and will be available for transition assistance and support.

Athletes Of The Month Selected

USA Water Ski & Wake Sports has selected Erika Lang (Gilbert, Ariz.) as its Female Athlete of the Month and Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) as its Male Athlete of the Month for March. The U.S. Wakeboard Team has been selected Team of the Month.

SafeSport Certification Now Available

SafeSport Certification and background screening is now available in the Members Only section of the USA Water Ski website. As mandated by the United States Olympic Committee audit of the USA Water Ski SafeSport program, USA Water Ski and its sport discipline organizations require that individuals formally authorized, approved, or appointed to a position of authority over or who would have frequent contact with athletes, complete criminal background checks and the SafeSport education and training requirements.

Board Approves Organization Name Update

The USA Water Ski board of directors on Sunday unanimously approved a formal name update of the national governing body of organized water skiing from USA Water Ski to USA Water Ski & Wake Sports. It is the board’s belief that USA Water Ski & Wake Sports embraces a wider audience of participants, including all who participate recreationally in towed water sports. The name update was one of a number of recommendations approved by the board from the Membership Task Force, which was appointed in 2016 by former USA Water Ski President Jim Grew to address the decline in membership and create a plan for future growth.
