U.S. Wins Gold Medal At FISU Worlds

The U.S. World University Water Ski Team won the gold medal and five U.S. team members combined to win 10 individual medals at the second FISU World University Water Ski Championships, Oct. 1-4, at the Vanke Dongli Lake International Water Sports Park in Tianjin, China.

September Athletes of the Month Selected

USA Water Ski has selected Dr. Mike Morgan (Odessa, Fla.) and Leza Harrison (Chuluota, Fla.) as its Male and Female Athletes of the Month for September. The U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team earned Team of the Month honors. Morgan, Harrison and the U.S. Veteran Water Ski Team are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee’s Athlete of the Month and Team of the Month honors.

Favret Wins Big Dawg Championship

Ben Favret of Windermere, Fla., won the third annual Ski Nautique Big Dawg Slalom Series Championship on Sept. 28 at the Isles of Lake Hancock in Winter Garden, Fla. Favret defeated Chet Raley of Boynton Beach, Fla., in the finals, scoring 2-1/2 buoys at 41 feet off to Raley’s 3-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off. Click here (pdf) to view the final bracket.

AWSA IAC Seeks Senior Officials

The American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee (IAC) will meet on Nov. 1 to nominate officials for the 2009 U.S. Water Ski Team Trials and all 2009 three-event international tournaments. You must be a senior official. Cypress Gardens To Host Barefoot Event

Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Fla. will host Footin’ Fever, a barefoot head-to-head endurance competition on Oct. 25 at 8 a.m. The entry fee for competitors is $50 and includes free parking in the main parking lot, entry to Cypress Gardens, a T-shirt and a cook out following the competition.

Nowlan Ties Women's Slalom Record

Australia's Karina Nowlan tied the women's world slalom record of 1 buoy at 41 feet off on Sept. 21 during the final stop of the 2008 MasterCraft Pro Water Ski Tour at Diablo Shores in Brentwood, Calif.

12 Athletes Win National Kneeboard Titles

Twelve athletes won overall titles at the 24th annual Kneeboard National Championships, Sept. 13-14, on Lake Lauderdale at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Hosted by the Skionee Board Team and Gold Coast Water Ski Club, the championships featured the nation's top kneeboard athletes competed for national titles in slalom, tricks, freestyle and flipout events.
