Rock Aqua Jays Win WI State Title

The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team (Janesville, Wis.) won the Division 1 team title at the 50th Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships, July 21-24, at Lake Wazeecha’s Red Sands Beach in Wisconsin Rapids. Hosted by the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers, the tournament featured more than 25 teams in three divisions.

Team Skiing Underway At AWSA Regionals

The Western Region’s Area 1 (Southern California and Hawaii) and the Southern Region’s Florida won the team skiing events at this past week’s Western Regionals and Southern Regionals, respectively. Those two teams will advance to the Nationals to compete against three other teams (yet to be determined). Thirty-eight teams from across the nation are competing at respective regionals for five spots at the 74th GOODE Water Ski National Championships, Aug. 8-13, at Broadside Harbor in Caldwell, Idaho. France To Host 2017 Water Ski Worlds

The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation has announced that the 2017 Water Ski World Championships will be held Sept. 3-10, 2017, at Choisy-le-Roi in Paris, France. The 2017 IWWF World Congress will take place Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017.

AWSA Updates Scoring Tutorial

The American Water Ski Association has released an updated tutorial, complete with illustrations, on how to set up and score a tournament. It is an excellent guide on using WSTIMS and is a great tool as clinic material or self-study. To download and view the tutorial, click here (PDF).

Inaugural Board Wars Event Announced

The American Kneeboard Association has announced that the inaugural Board Wars will be held Aug. 13-14 at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. There is no entry fee, only a refundable $50 deposit – to be returned at the competitors’ meeting – due by July 31. Cash prizes will be awarded in the freestyle event and for the “sickest trick of the decade.”

Scott Wins Big Dawg Tour Stop No. 3

Chad ScottThe third stop of the 2016 Nautique Big Dawg World Slalom Tour, presented by O’Brien, was held on Saturday and Sunday in Maiden, N.C., with U.S. athlete Chad Scott (Covington, La.) earning the victory. Scott, the No. 12 seed for the 16-skier head-to-head finals, defeated fellow U.S. athlete Greg Sund (Stony Brook, N.Y.) for the win, scoring 2-1/4 buoys at 41 feet off to Sund's ½ buoy at 41 feet off. Level 8 Skiers Are Qualified For Nationals

The national rankings' list qualifications cutoff date for the 74th GOODE Water Ski National Championships was today (July 14). Any U.S. athlete with a Level 8 national ranking is now qualified for the Nationals, which will be held Aug. 8-13 at Broadside Harbor in Caldwell, Idaho. Your qualification does, however, require that you ski in one of the Regional Water Ski Championships.

2016 U.S. Can Am Challenge Teams Selected

USA Water Ski and the American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee are pleased to announce the selection of two water ski teams – Under 14 and Under 17 – that will represent the United States at the 8th Can Am Challenge, Aug. 20-21, at Shalom Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The event features athletes from the United States and Canada competing for team titles only. The AWSA's IAC chose the teams based upon a pre-approved selection criteria.

2016 35+ Water Ski Worlds Team Selected

USA Water Ski and the American Water Ski Association are pleased to announce the athletes selected to the 2016 U.S. 35+ Water Ski World Championships Team, which will compete in the 4th 35+ Water Ski World Championships, Sept. 14-18, at the Seseña Water Ski & Wakeboard Complex in Seseña, Spain. The American Water Ski Association’s International Activities Committee selected the team based on qualifications criteria previously approved by the American Water Ski Association's board of directors.

AWSA Updates Officials’ Documents

The American Water Ski Association has updated its Judges' and Scorers' Policy Manual (PDF) and Requirements for Advancement and Renewal (PDF), incorporating changes approved by the board of directors at the January 2016 mid-winter board meeting. Significant changes include: Formalizing the Continuing Education (CE) Modules and Clinic; Explanation of three different types of clinics; Expanded Fast Track Program; and Officials’ Maintenance Credit for Grassroots. Wonder Lake Wins NSSA Central Regionals

The Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team (Wonder Lake, Ill.) won the National Show Ski Association's Central Regional Show Ski Championships, July 9-10, at Hidden Lake in Warsaw, Ind. Wonder Lake swept the traditional box scores of dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show and high individual club act in tallying 1,854.4 points. The host Lake City Skiers placed second (1,500.8 points), followed by the Backwater Gamblers (Rock Island, Ill.) with 1,438.43 points and the Arch Rivals (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) with 1,411.37 points.

Entry Deadline For Show Nationals Is July 15

The official individual and team entry forms for the 2016 Indmar Marine Engines Division 1 Show Ski National Championships, presented by Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing, and the Division 2 Show Ski National Championships, are available to download from the Show Skiing webpage on the USA Water Ski website. The Division 1 Show Ski National Championships will be held Aug. 12-14 at Traxler Park in Janesville, Wis. The Division 2 Show Ski National Championships will be held Aug. 5-7 at Hidden Lake in Warsaw, Ind. The entry deadline for both tournaments is Friday, July 15.

Smith Wins Title At San Gervasio Pro Am

U.S. water ski athlete Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) won the men's slalom title at the 3rd San Gervasio Pro Am, July 9-10, in San Gervasio, Italy. Smith scored 6 buoys at 41 feet in the head-to-head finals to earn the victory over Italy's Thomas Degasperi (3 buoys at 41 feet off). France's Manon Costard won the women's title.
