Wonder Lake Wins NSSA Central Regionals

The Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team (Wonder Lake, Ill.) won the team title at the 2019 Central Regional Show Ski Championships, July 13-14, at Hidden Lake in Warsaw, Ind. Wonder Lake earned high-scoring awards for dock and equipment personnel, pick-up boat crews, towboat driving, showmanship, sound crew total, overall show, high individual club act, pyramid, swivel and barefoot on its way to a grand total 1,689.37 points. The Backwater Gamblers (Rock Island, Ill.), which earned high-scoring awards for ballet and jump, placed second with 1,518.93 points.

Badal Wins Nautique Big Dawg Stop No. 2

U.S. water ski athlete Greg Badal (Brentwood, Calif.) won the second stop of the 2019 Nautique Big Dawg World Slalom Tour on Sunday at Diablo Shores in Brentwood, Calif. Badal defeated fellow U.S. athlete Jeff Rodgers (Ninety Six, S.C.) in the head-to-head final, scoring 5-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off to Rodgers’ 4 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off.

Updated Criteria For IWWF 35+ Pan Ams

The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation has announced updated criteria for independents at the 2019 IWWF Pan American Senior Water Ski Championships, Oct. 23-26, in Bujama, Peru.

AWSA Seeks Judges For Can Am Challenge

The American Water Ski Association’s International Activities Committee is seeking additional judges who are interested in officiating at the 2019 Can Am Challenge, Aug. 30-Sept 1, at Shalom Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The event features athletes – U14 and U17 – from the United States and Canada competing for team titles only. Interested officials should contact Jeff Smith at jsmith@honigman.com.

All entries for the National Show Ski Association’s individual and team competitions for the 45th Indmar Division 1 Show Ski National Championships, presented by Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing, and the 19th Division 2 Show Ski National Championships, must be post marked on or before July 15, 2019. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Show Skiing page on the USA Water Ski & Wake Sports website.

Three U.S. Athletes Earn Medals At U21 Worlds

Anna Gay won gold medals in women's tricks and overall at the 2019 Under 21 Water Ski World Championships.The U.S. Under 21 Water Ski Team placed fourth and three U.S. athletes earned individual medals at the 9th Under 21 Water Ski World Championships, July 4-7, at Shalom Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Great Britain won the gold medal, its first U21 world team title, scoring 7,591.17 points. Canada earned the silver medal with 7,559.67 points and the Ukraine earned the bronze medal with 7,517.06 points. The United States (7,509.38 points) and Australia (6,396.91 points) rounded out the top-five placements at the biennial event, which featured teams representing 21 countries.

Dumala Wins San Gervasio Pro Am

U.S. water ski athlete Samantha Dumala (Wellington, Fla.) won the pro women’s slalom title on Sunday at the 6th San Gervasio Pro Am at the Jolly Ski School in San Gervasio, Bresciano, Italy. Dumala defeated France’s Ambre Franc in the head-to-head final in earning her first career professional victory. Great Britain’s Will Asher won the pro men’s title.

Jaquess Sets Pending World Slalom Record

U.S. water ski athlete Regina Jaquess (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) set a pending women’s world slalom record of 4-1/2 buoys at 41 feet off on Saturday at the Regina Jaquess Open II at Lymanland in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Revised 2019 NSSA Rule Book Posted

A revised version of the National Show Ski Association’s 2019 Rule Book has been posted, effective July 5, 2019. Rule 9.02 in individual competition has been updated with a statement about disproportionate-sized doubles couples. Also, an explanation of Technical Merit and Artistic Impression was added to rule 9.02.

Judges Needed For 2019 Senior Pan Ams

The American Water Ski Association’s International Activities Committee is in need of a volunteer or two for judges at the 2019 IWWF Pan American Senior Water Ski Championships. The tournament will be held Oct. 23-27 in Bujama, Peru. The judges need to hold three-event Pan American judges ratings.

As a reminder, the U.S. team selection Qualifications & Procedures and Independent Skier “Notification of Interest” Requirements for the 2019 Senior Pan American Championships are available to view and download. Bulletin No. 3 for the 36th Water Ski World Championships is now available to view and download. The Worlds will be held Aug. 13-18 in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
